Domain Rating vs organic traffic: which matters for guest posts?

They measure different things. Neither can tell you by itself whether a guest-post site is worth using.

What Domain Rating tells you

Domain Rating is Ahrefs' proprietary measure of backlink-profile strength. It can be useful for relative screening inside that tool, but it is not a Google metric and does not prove traffic, relevance or editorial quality.

What organic-traffic estimates tell you

SEO tools estimate search visits from ranking data. Estimates can help identify whether a domain appears to attract search demand, but they vary by tool and can miss direct, social, referral or offline audiences.

Why context matters

  • Traffic trend can matter more than one snapshot
  • The pages receiving traffic may be unrelated to your niche
  • A strong backlink profile can coexist with weak editorial standards
  • A relevant small publication may have modest search traffic but a real specialist audience

Use metrics as screening signals

Combine authority, traffic, topical fit, editorial quality and outbound-link behavior. The better question is whether the publication would still look credible if the metric badges disappeared.
